来自印尼的Alexander Edo Tondas博士是来我院“一带一路”心脏介入培训基地接受培训的第4位心血管医生。他为期6个月的培训在11月底正式结束，在这里与我们分享他在武汉的故事。。。

“The adventures of A Foreign Doctor in Wuhan”

1.初来武汉

当我第一次踏上武汉的土地时，正值初夏。坐落于中国的中部，武汉是一个拥有1100万人口，呼喊着“武汉，每天不一样”口号，瞬息万变，充满活力的大都市！那也是我第一次看见人们在繁忙的十字路口，边吃着热干面边过马路的有趣场景。

It was the beginning of summer, when I first set my foot in Wuhan.Located in central China, Wuhan holds a population of approximately 11 million people, a growing and dynamic metropolis, boasting its slogan : “Wuhan everyday different”. That was the first time I saw people eating “re gan mian”, local dry and hot noodles, while crossing a busy road with unpredictable traffic.

中国通过“一带一路”项目向世界敞开了大门，涉及包括医学在内的各个学科。。。我是一名来自印尼的心血管病医生，在来到双色球中三个接受高级介入培训的第一天，就感到“焦虑”了。

China has opened its door to the world, with “One belt one road” program, across various disciplines, including medicine. I am an Indonesian cardiologist, “anxious” on my first day of advanced interventional cardiology training in Wuhan Asia Heart Hospital.

在印尼，每个月我要给大约20名病人做手术；但是在这里，从我第一天来到介入导管室开始，大约每天都有24名病人等着我。医院共有6个导管室，包括非手术介入治疗和电生理治疗，每年共计约6000例手术。这里的介入心脏病学是最先进的，包括IVUS,FFR，OCT等等。由于支付能力不够或是报销制度不允许，这些设备在印尼都十分罕见，仅限一些大的医疗中心才可见到。

Normally in my own country I would operate on around 20 patients per month. Here, I was welcomed by 24 patients per day, starting on day one in the catheterization laboratory. The hospital has a total of six cath lab, covering a vast range of non surgical cardiac intervention and also electrophysiology (arrhytmia) with a total of approximately 6000 cases per year. The technology in interventional cardiology is cutting edge, with IVUS (intravascular ultrasound), FFR (fractionated flow ratio), and OCT (optical coherence tomography) just to name a few. These equipments are quite rare in Indonesia, and only limited to some big centers, due to low affordability and not sustainable by our current reimbursement system.

在武汉的第一个月对我来说确实是最艰难的挑战了，我感受到另一个国家完全不同的文化冲击。因为我的中文不是太好，语言障碍是主要的问题：不是每个人都说英语，更不要提印尼语了。幸好我的朋友们都尽他们最大的努力，与我这个“外星人”” 交流。我努力适应可以称之为“疯狂”的工作节奏，适应室外高达42℃的高温，难怪武汉被称之为“火炉”呢！

My first month in Wuhan was literally the hardest challenge, I might say it’s a cultural shock. Language barrier was the main issue : not everyone  here speaks English, let alone Bahasa Indonesia, and on the other side, my knowledge in chinese language was very much limited. Thankfully, my friends tried their best to help and communicate with this “alien”. I struggled to adjust with the insane work speed and adapt to the summer heat, which can rose up to 42 celcius degrees outside, No wonder that Wuhan is called as one of the “furnaces” of China.

2. 融入亚心

随着时间的推移，我和同事们之间的联系变得越来越紧密了，我的中文也变得更好了，甚至可以用中文告诉病人放松！我的导师汪敏主任在术中给我指导的时候也更加没有顾虑了。我不再是团队的负担，我很高兴自己可以帮助他们更快地完成所有的工作。

As time went by, the bond with my co-workers started to grow, my tongue got better I was even able to tell the patients to relax...in their language, and my mentor would easily give me instructions without having to worry.  I was no longer a burden to the team, rather I was happy that I could help them finish all the work faster.

我还从中国的社交网络 ---微信中找到了安慰。这个App可以让我轻松地打电话回家，享受无现金支付。在我学习工作之余，我喜欢在中国各地旅行，在百度地图的帮助下我可以到处摄影，毫不担心自己迷路。

I also found consolation in Wechat, or Weixin, made by China’s internet giant, Tencent. This convenient app allowed me to video call my family back home with ease and enjoyed the cashless community, as it’s directly connected to the bank account, you just have to scan and go. During my spare time, I enjoyed travelling off-the-beaten path in China and fulfilling my hobby in photography without any worry of being lost with the help of Baidu map.  

3. 依依不舍

冬天快到了，我在武汉6个月的介入学习也接近尾声。我可能会很想念这座鳞次栉比的高楼后面活力无限的千湖之城，在那里钓鱼是免费的。

And now, the winter is closing in, and so is the end of my 6 months fellowship in Wuhan. It feels like that I’m going to miss this vibrant city of a thousand lakes behind the tall buildings, where fishing is free.

谢谢你，给我了一段令人兴奋无比的生活经历，很长一段时间里，我可能都不会忘记。在离开之前，要是可以看见下雪就好了。

Thank you, for this was an exciting one of a kind life experience that I will remember for a long time. I hope I can see the snow fall before I leave.
